Arizona abortion clinic search being questioned

PHOENIX (AP) - Abortion-rights supporters are questioning the timing of the only warrant the Arizona Department of Health Services has ever sought to search an abortion clinic.

The warrant served last month on a Planned Parenthood of Arizona clinic came just days before a bill removing the requirement was to be heard in the House of Representatives.

The warrant was prompted by a report that Planned Parenthood of Arizona sent to Health Services nearly 11 months ago. Planned Parenthood's Bryan Howard says the department could have requested more information or a site visit at any time.

Health Services spokeswoman Laura Oxley says the report was considered a low priority but worthy of eventual follow-up. She says the search was first planned in November and was "absolutely not" related to House Bill 2284.
