Caught on camera: Glendale AM/PM clerk shot and killed

Posted: Updated:

Glendale Police on Wednesday released surveillance footage which gives some clues as to what happened moments before a man shot and killed an AM/PM clerk. Investigators believe the shooter is the same man who was killed in a shootout with police on US 60.

Video only tells part of the story, it only shows the minutes before the shooting at the AM/PM near Glendale & 99th Avenue Monday morning. Glendale Police do not know what was said between the store clerk and the gunman because the video does not have any sound. It is clear the gunman wasn't threatened in any way before he pulled the trigger killing a husband and father.

31 year-old Scott White worked the night shift at the AM/PM, his brother says he was hoping to save money for something big.

"I know he loved his family, his wife, and his kid. He was just saving up his money to buy a house he never owned a home yet", said his brother Robert White.

In the video you see White walk outside the store. His brother thinks he was taking a cigarette break. Then a car pulls up and White walks outside of the store. Seconds later the driver pulls a gun on White, he lowers the gun, and then opens fire killing White.

"I'll never know what my brother said to him when he lowered the gun but I'm sure it had something to do with his family, I'm sure it had something to do with the fact that he didn't want to die", said Robert.

Investigators believe the gunman in the video is 25 year-old Andrew Rael. Rael is suspected of shooting and killing a tow truck driver in Buckeye earlier that day. He was later tracked by authorities who pursued him on the freeways before he opened fire on officers on US 60 resulting in them shooting and killing him.

Police tell White's family that the gunman was unprovoked by White, his family remembers him for his hard work and generosity.

"I'm sure that night he was scared, funny thing is if that guy would have asked him for a cigarette he would have given him one", said Robert.

White's family has established a fund to pay for funeral expenses. You can donate at any Wells Fargo Branch just reference the Daniel Scott White fund.
