HAZEL PARK, Mich. (WJBK) -

Glenna Tucker, 72, was sitting in her bed knitting Sunday night when she became just an inch away from a likely death.

She heard a gunshot and felt she had been hit by something.

Her son, Herman Tucker, also heard the gunshot and ran into his mother's bedroom. He got her safely to the hallway.

"I was a mess, and I didn't know if there was going to be more shots fired either," says Herman.

Glenna was safe.

She had not been struck by the bullet, but rather by plaster, particles and debris from where the bullet came barreling into her home from the outside.

"It was a 720 grain bullet ... That's like a 3-inch cartridge," says Herman.

Glenna's head was just an inch away from where the bullet struck.

The bullet went through her pillow, and some of her hair is still entangled in the pillow stuffing that spilled out of the case. The bullet traveled into her dresser where Herman says it got lodged into a tape recorder.

The Tuckers tell FOX 2's Andrea Isom the bullet came from their neighbor's gun.

"[The bullet hole] is the size of a baseball on the side of his house and it just peeled the aluminum siding back like a can opener," says Herman.

Published reports say the neighbor was arrested and charged. Herman says he was told the neighbor was cleaning his gun, and believes the gun blast was an accident. He says there was no tension between the two households.

Isom reports the neighbor is a convicted felon and he should have never have the weapon in the first place. Police say the weapon is an assault rifle.
