CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A 15-year-old boy was allegedly caught with a loaded gun at a South Side "Safe Passage" elementary Chicago Public school after the principal found out two students had been taking pictures with the weapon in the bathroom, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.

Authorities found a .38 caliber revolver with three live rounds in Leon Bell Jr.'s backpack, at Mollison Elementary School late Monday afternoon, Assistant Cook County State's Attorney Robert Mack said.

Bell, of 4700 block of South Indiana, allegedly admitted he knew the gun was in his backpack.

It was unclear whether Bell was one of the students taking the pictures with the gun at the school, 4415 S. King Drive.

Bell was previously found delinquent as a juvenile for armed robbery and theft.

He also was arrested for misdemeanor criminal trespass in 2012.

Bell has been charged as an adult for this week's arrest.

On Tuesday, Bell was ordered held in lieu of $50,000 bail for unlawful use of a weapon on school grounds.

CPS officials were not immediately available for comment.
