Seth Rogen takes on Alzheimer's

He's one of the funniest men in Hollywood, but actor/screenwriter Seth Rogen isn't joking about his latest role.

He's become an advocate for Alzheimer's victims. It's an issue close to his heart: Rogen's mother-in-law has been suffering from the incurable disease since she was 55 years old.

Alzheimer's robs those with the illness of their memory and causes problems with thinking and behavior.

Five million Americans are suffering from the disease, according to the Alzheimer's Association.

Rogen visited Washington, DC in February to lobby for increased funding for Alzheimer's research.

“It seems to have struck a chord with the public in general. I think it’s the first step to getting the government to actually show up to their meetings,” said Rogen.

Only two of the 18 committee members he was scheduled to testify before showed up for the hearing.

“It’s not common practice for senators to attend the hearings of the committees they are a part of,” added Rogen.

“At the moment I was incredibly moved and touched by the voice Seth was giving to Alzheimer’s," said Lauren Miller, Rogen's wife.

Despite the lack of participation by lawmakers, Rogen and Miller say there has been an incredible response from the public.

He's also bringing some of the funniest people in entertainment to help raise money and awareness for the disease.

Rogen's charity- Hilarity for Charity- is hosting a comedy show at the Jane Hotel in New York City on Tuesday.

The event is sold out but donations can be made to HilarityForCharity.org Money raised will benefit the Alzheimer's Association.

    Many of Major League Baseball's biggest stars will turn out for a special event at Brooklyn's MCU Park.  The 10th Annual New York-Penn League All-Star Game takes place on Tuesday, Aug. 19. The players will be on hand to sign autographs prior to the Celebrity/Civil Service Softball challenge. Rosanna Scotto will be the captain of the blue team. Greg Kelly will be playing, too.
