Marlon Wayans from Fulton Houses to Hollywood

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - Actor and comedian Marlon Wayans grew up in the Fulton Houses in Chelsea and remembers it well.

"It was the hood. It was hard core. Back then I had my pride: I'm from Fulton, I'm from Chelsea, I do that now all my street cred is gone. You mean  the Meatpacking District?" joked the funny man.

Wayans, who stars in the upcoming movie, A Haunted House 2, co-wrote and co-produced the film which is a spoof on scary movies.  The film opens April 18.

His days in the roughest part of Manhattan has always been a source of inspiration for the performer.

"When you grow up in the projects, you get to see the melting pot of the world which is New York. I grew up with blacks, whites, Hispanics, gays, Jews. Then there we had the drug dealers, hustlers, pimps, the prostitutes, it was all there. We learned at a young age to look at life and see what's funny about it. Plus, my parents protected and loved the hell out of us," said Wayans.

Marlon Wayans and his brothers have all gone on to have successful careers in show business, but they haven't toured together in the comedy circuit until now.

"Hopefully the four of us is going to put together the first ever Wayans brothers comedy tour. Me, Shawn, Keenen and Damon. It's going to be straight stand up. It's kind of like the victory tour of the Jacksons only we don't have the Jerry curls," said Wayans.

The U.S. Open is underway in Queens and there's no denying that many of the players, both men and women, are in great physical shape and know how to play that up. Women are particularly promoted in the industry as attractive, fashionable and fiercely competitive. Does that help the game and draw more people in?

A new reality show is bringing a sense of urgency to your television screen. The show 'The Singles Project' is shot Wednesday- Saturday and airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on Bravo. “That's what makes the show different. We're filming in real-time. We're really on a roller coaster and it's off the rails. The social media part is just another layer,” said Joey Healy, eyebrow stylist to the stars. Healy, Lee Gause, Tabazum Mir and Kerry Cassidy are among the cast members.
