Eye surgeon charged with videotaping females in bathroom

Posted: Updated:

A prominent eye surgeon was secretly videotaping female employees in an office bathroom and locker room at his two Chicago offices, Cook County prosecutors said.

A 27-year-old employee at the Chicago Eye Institute, 3982 N. Milwaukee, noticed what looked like a camera lens in a toilet tank where a portion of the porcelain had been chiseled out last week, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.

The woman then opened the top of the tank and discovered a black camera attached to a Velcro, the police report said.

Police were alerted and upon further inspection, authorities noticed on that camera's micro disk also captured two women in the female locker room of Robert Weiss' other office at Illinois Masonic Hospital, 836 West Wellington Ave., Assistant State's Attorney Lorraine Scaduto said.

Police also said another woman was taped in the washroom at the Chicago Eye Institute.

All four women identified themselves in the recorded images, Scaduto said.

Weiss, 58, of the 900 block of South Michigan Ave., was ordered held on a $75,000 bond for felony unauthorized videotaping.

Weiss' attorney Aaron Goldstein said his client has practiced for the last 30 years and is well known in his profession.

No one from Weiss' office had immediate comment.
