Henry Co. issues rabies alert

Posted: Updated:

The Henry County Animal Care and Control Department issued a 31-day Rabies Quarantine for the City of McDonough.

The quarantine was issued after Henry County Animal Care and Control say they received a call about a dog that had fought and killed a raccoon on April 2.  The raccoon was then taken to the Georgia Public Health Laboratory, and tested positive for the rabies virus.

During this quarantine, Henry county residents should make sure that all of their companion animals are up to date on their rabies vaccinations. Residents should also be vigilant of the behavior their own pets and surrounding wildlife.

For more information, visit www.hcacc.org or contact Henry County Rabies Control Officer, Vince Farah, at (770) 288-7387.
