TEMPE, Ariz. -

A busy valley freeway was shut down for part of the morning commute after a wrong way crash.

Department of Public Safety officials say the 36-year-old woman who was driving the wrong way on Interstate 10 near Warner crashed head-on into another car, and was then struck by a semi-truck.

The drivers of both cars were seriously injured, but are expected to survive.

DPS says alcohol may have played a part in the collision.

With the exception of the HOV lane, the area near I-10 and Warner Road was closed until 5:30 a.m.

No names have been released in this case.
