Coweta teens called "heroes" after saving neighbors life

Posted: Updated:
COWETA COUNTY, Ga. -

Two local teens are being called heroes after they thwarted an almost deadly altercation in their Coweta County neighborhood.

The teens heard shots and ran toward to danger to save a man life. It's the story of a lawnmower, two neighbors and two teens who just happened to save the day.

The story began when two neighbors were arguing over a lawnmower. The teens say Bernard Simms went across the street to retrieve his elderly mother's lawnmower and that's when things took a turn for the worse.

Simms says his neighbor, Michael Hanson, had borrowed the lawnmower and refused to give it back. And when he went to confront Hanson about the mower he was shot -- twice -- in the leg, severing a major artery. The Mullins' heard the gunshots and ran to the home.

It's what 19-year-old Justin Mullins and 16-year-old Ashley Mullins did next that had everyone in the neighborhood calling them heroes.
