She's a pup with quite a tale to tell.
German Shepherd mix "Nina" was just adopted last week. On that very same day, she and her new owner had a car accident.
Nina dashed from the wreckage and vanished for days. That is, until Amy Abdnour noticed a pup with a lot of personality wandering on her South Tampa property.
"I saw the leash dangling off of her and I wanted to get it off of her so she didn't hurt herself," Abdnour said Tuesday.
She kept Nina for the weekend, but Tuesday morning, took her into the Humane Society of Tampa Bay to see if she was the dog the whole community was looking for.
With a quick microchip scan, vets confirmed she's the one.
"I think Nina did all the work. I think she found me and stuck with me, I think she's the story," Abdnour smiled.
Nina was soon whisked to her next stop, Tampa General Hospital, for a reunion with her owner, Luke Macner. It brought him to tears.
"My spirits are so high, my emotions are so high because of this little four-legged critter right here," Macner said.
While the two only spent eight hours together before the crash, Luke says their bond is unbreakable.
"It really means the world to me that there were so many people out there looking and caring. I'm a simple person, I lead a simple life, but to lose something as important as this dog really, really hurt me. Now that we're back together, we're a team," he smiled.
He's still recovering from broken bones, but his heart has finally healed.
Abdnour has already offered to take care of Nina until Macner finishes recovering at the hospital.
