HAVERFORD, Pa. - Haverford Police have arrested a local doctor and his daughter accused of growing and distributing marijuana inside their home.

Investigators arrived at the home of Dr. Paul Ezell, 58, on the 200 block of Sagamore Road after the police department received an anonymous tip stating "…it has come to my attention that Dr. Ezell is growing marijuana at his residence and selling it to his patients and other individuals. Since he is a doctor and places himself in a position of trust, I though you should be aware of this…"

When detectives searched through the home, they seized marijuana plants along with numerous items consistent with a marijuana growing and distribution operation. Detectives also seized $1,200 from the residence.

And officers arrested the doctors' 23-year old daughter, Victoria Ezell.

Havertown Township Lt. Charles Moore said he's "surprised that a physician would jeopardize his position in his profession in his community."

"A little surprising, but you never know," said Bridgit Johnston, a former patient of Dr. Ezell and a friend of his daughter, a bartender who is studying to be a nurse.

"They are really nice people so it's real shame that it's going to affect them in such a way. I'm sure, Victoria, might not be able to be a nurse so it's a shame," she said.

"It reminds me of a scene out of 'Weeds'," one neighbor said.

Neighbors say the family suffered the recent tragic death of Dr. Ezell's wife and Victoria's mother. They couldn't believe the father and daughter seen smiling on his Facebook are now accused drug dealers.

"I think there's exceptions if it's for medical reasons, but we don't know that's what it was or not if this was to help is patients or to make some money on the side," neighbor Elizabeth Wilson said.

The two have been charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal conspiracy.

Dr. Ezell and his daughter said nothing to reporters while being led to court Wednesday afternoon.

Police estimate the entire operation was worth about $30,000 to $40,000.

Both suspects are being held on $50,000 bail.
