Phoenix police investigating man's shooting death

Posted: Updated:

PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police are investigating a man's shooting death that resulted from what police were told was a scuffle between two men.

Sgt. Steve Martos says officers on a "check welfare" call found a 22-year-old man dead of gunshot wounds in a north side apartment Thursday afternoon.

According to Martos, an 18-year-old man who lives at the apartment then arrived with a friend and told police that the shooting occurred when he scuffled with the 22-year-old man.

Martos says the 18-year-old man and his friend told police that the 22-year-old man had entered the apartment armed with a gun and then demanded items of value.

Police say the case will be submitted to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office for a decision pn whether charges will be filed.
