AVONDALE, Ariz. -
Police in Avondale say three people had to be hospitalized after a chemically-triggered explosion blew the garage door off a home.

Sgt. Brandon Busse says two men and one woman were taken to a burn unit in Phoenix early Sunday for injuries that weren't life threatening.

Police say the three people were trying to make hashish oil from marijuana.

While the suspects were using butane, another one of them went into the garage with either a lit cigarette or one that they were about to light.

A flash fire sparked and caused the explosion.

The garage door detached from the home and landed on the sidewalk. Busse says the damage was contained to the garage.

One adult and four children were reportedly inside the home during the explosion; they were uninjured.

Child Protective Services has temporary custody of the children.

The names of three suspects weren't released, but police say they have pending charges of arson of an occupied structure, possession of marijuana and endangerment.
