Jodi Arias convicted of murder a year ago, case is still in court

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Guilty of first degree murder, it's hard to believe that a jury passed down their verdict a year-ago today.
12 jurors decided Jodi Arias did plan to kill her former lover Travis Alexander.
Now a year alter Arias still sits in a jail cell waiting for the penalty phase of the trial to begin, what's taking so long?
Whether she did it was never in doubt, she testified that she killed Alexander.
The jury, however, did not buy her story that she killed him in self-defense.
"Do I find the defendant as to county 1, first degree murder, guilty," said the juror.
After the verdict, Arias gave an exclusive interview to FOX 10's Troy Hayden, the whole country was riveted.
"I said years ago that I'd rather get death than life, and that still is true today," said Arias.

But once she was back in court, she began begging for her life.

"In prison there are programs I can start and people I can help," she said.

Life or death, the jury, decided not to decide.

What will happen the second time around? We reached out to FOX 10 legal analysts Monica Lindstrom & Brian Foster.

"I think she will be given the death penalty, I think the shorter trial this time around will not allow Jodi to endear herself with the jurors," said Brian Foster.

But Monica Lindstrom has a different take. "I think juries are reluctant to send a woman to death row, but she has nothing going for her; no children, no family. They could do it, but I do not think they will," said Lindstrom.
