Man critically injured during shooting outside Phoenix bar

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - A security guard was detained after he allegedly shot a man who was trying to break up a fight outside a bar early Monday  morning.

Phoenix police say were called to the parking lot of Funny Farm Cocktails, near 43rd Avenue and Thomas Road, around 2:30 a.m. for reports of a shooting.

According to Phoenix Police Sgt. James Holmes, witnesses claim there was an altercation in the parking lot between a private security guard for the bar and a patron.

The shooting victim was trying to separate them when the guard allegedly pulled out a weapon and shot the man at close range. The man is in critical condition, but Holmes says there is a good chance he will survive.

The security guard reportedly left the area with another security guard immediately afterward.

When officers arrived, they got into contact with the guard and asked him to return.

The man cooperated and has been detained. According to Holmes, this is the man who fired the gun in the parking lot.

The second security guard was also detained.

Police are continuing to investigate what happened before the shooting.
