Tempe Police investigate deadly double shooting

Tempe Police are investigating a double shooting that has claimed the life of at least one victim.

Officers responded to the area  of Rural & Guadalupe after 2:30 p.m. for the shooting call.

Investigators believe that a female victim and male suspect, 33 year-old John Brazel, were in a domestic violence situation when a neighbor tried to help. The suspect allegedly pulled a gun from a vehicle and shot the woman killing her and the neighbor.

The suspect fled in a white Chevrolet SUV with Arizona plate BDY6785. He was believed to have been in the area and trying to pick up his child.

Police placed Kyrene de la Mariposa and Waggoner elementary schools into lockdown as a precaution for a brief time Tuesday.

Lt. Mike Pooley said "we have responded here for several domestic violence incidents" when referring to the home.
