Local veteran's name added to Vietnam Memorial Wall

Posted: Updated:
(WJBK) - A local Vietnam veteran is getting the recognition he deserved years after his death.

Henry Drozdowski Jr. was badly injured in 1967 when 16 Howitzer rounds pelted the landing zone Henry's unit was clearing. Doctors did not expect him to survive, but he did.

He returned home and married his girlfriend and they had two sons together, despite doctors believing he would never be able to have children.

Cancer eventually formed in his wounds which led to his death in 2011.

Meanwhile, his family had been fighting to make sure he was recognized for his lifelong sacrifice.

Earlier this month his name was added to the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C.

FOX 2's Randy Wimbley shares his story. Click on the video player above to watch the report.
