Little boy gets new bike after writing letter to police

Posted: Updated:
GLENDALE, Ariz. - An 11-year-old boy wrote a letter to police after his bicycle was stolen outside of his home.  He was asking police to help others so they didn't have to go through what he went through and on Tuesday, he was rewarded for his selfless act.

A Glendale police officer stood before a family, more specifically, an 11-year-old little boy, promising to step up patrols after Jaedon Gonzales' bike was stolen, yet again.

"We were surprised because it was right outside the apartment, so we didn't think anything of it.. we didn't think it was going to happen again, but it did," said Jaedon's mother, Cynthia Gonzales.

Cynthia says Jaedon wrote a heartfelt letter to the police department after it happened -- all on his own -- a plea of sorts not for them to find his bike, but to protect others.

"I told them that I was heart broken and that I didn't want it to happen to another person," said Jaedon.

During their visit, the almost 6th grader received a special surprise.  His new friends in blue brought with them a brand new bicycle.

"I think it was the selfless nature that Jaedon displayed in this.. just the fact that he was more concerned about other citizens in Glendale," said Andy Lyons.

Jaedon's new bike was donated by Target.
