DPS pursuit ends in Mesa with mother arrested

Posted: Updated:
Police arrested a Valley mom who led law enforcement on a pursuit for nearly an hour Friday night.

The pursuit spanned several freeways in the East Valley.  Mesa Police say 36-year-old Stephanie Evans was driving a pickup truck, refused to pull over for officers, and hit high speeds as she drove off.

The chase began around 8 p.m. Friday night and came to an end in east Mesa when the truck pulled into a shopping center on Power Road near the U.S. 60 at 8:40 p.m.  Officers say that Evans' 12-year-old son was riding in the car with her during the pursuit.

Police say Evans ditched her truck and ran into a Target store with her son, hoping to get away, but they didn't get far.  A spokesperson for Mesa Police says officers ran into the store and eventually apprehended Evans.

Authorities say this all started with a purse snatching at a Walmart store.
