Hot jobs, working outdoors in the Arizona heat

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - We're still a few weeks away from the start of summer, but that doesn't mean much when you live in Arizona.

We've been under an excessive heat warning all week.  FOX 10 talked with people who worked outside in the heat.

Another scorching day in the valley of the sun and as we all know the trip digit days won't be going anywhere for a while.

It's hot but not as hot as it's going to be," said Dustin Bailey.

He works at Tri-Star Recycling where the truckloads come in all day. He says it's tough to avoid the sizzling summer sun.

"Try to hide, nothing you can do, drink water and  try to find shade that's about it... I mean it is, what it is," said Bailey.

But not everyone working in the valley had to endure the suns brutal rays.

In fact, you have to bundle up if you work at the Reddi Ice plant in Phoenix, especially if you're going into the vault where the temperatures are kept at 26 degrees.

"What a pleasure to work in an ice plant when it's 110 degrees out and to be able to work at 6 degrees below freezing," said Thomas Troy.

Thomas Troy is an electrical controls engineer at the Reddi Ice plant where business is booming.

"We're moving a lot of ice, and we plan to move a lot more," said Heath Bell.

Thomas says his family and friends want his job when the temps hit the triple digits.

"They are envious, let's face it, who wouldn't want to work in an ice plant, below freezing, when it's 110 degrees outside," he said.
