Jim Lauderdale: I Love Making Records, All Are Different

Posted: Updated:
Jim Lauderdale has been one of Nashville’s ‘A’ list song writers for decades. He’s written songs for George Strait, Vince Gill, The Dixie Chicks, Elvis Costello…and in his spare time, he's got a couple dozen studio albums including one about to hit the shelves.

Fun facts about Jim Lauderdale: (Source: Wikipedia)
1) He is an American country, bluegrass, and Americana singer-songwriter. As a solo artist, he has been making records since 1986. Lauderdale has released 23 studio albums, some of which are collaborations with artists like Dr. Ralph Stanley, Buddy Miller, and Donna the Buffalo. A "songwriter's songwriter," his songs have been recorded by George Strait, Elvis Costello, Blake Shelton, the Dixie Chicks, Vince Gill, and Patty Loveless.

2) After graduating from college, Lauderdale moved to Nashville in the summer of 1979 for about 5 months where he tried to get a record or a publishing deal. He hung out a lot with Roland White, a great mandolin player, with whom he recorded a record. But things didn't take off there, so he decided to move to New York.

3) His debut solo record, Planet of Love, was co-produced by Rodney Crowell and John Leventhal.

You can see Jim in concert Friday night, June 13th at McCabe’s right here in Santa Monica at 8 o’clock.
And Jim’s new CD - the double album ‘I'm A Song’ will be out in a couple weeks and available in all the usual places.
