(WJBK) - Traditional Irish Corned beef from the Motor City Irish Fest

Start with an 8 to 10 lbs of corn beef. Make sure it is pink in color and cut lean.

Wash the meat with cool water and discard the seeds, seasons that come with the meat as they tend to make the corn beef more salty than it needs to be.

Soak the corn beef in cool water over night in the refrigerator in a covered container.

The next day, rinse the corn beef and place it in a large cooking pan of cool water and bring to a rolling boil.

Throw the water out and repeat again.

Add fresh water and place the corn beef back in the pot. This time add cabbage, onion and turnips.

Reduce the heat and cook on low for five to six hours until a fork can go through the corn beef readily.

Drain the vegetables and top them with a pat of butter.

Cut against the grain and serve.
