DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) - An apparent domestic dispute leads to smashed windows and a vandalized home in Detroit days before the new homeowner was scheduled to move in. The previous owner also left a dog behind!

The home on Roselawn on Detroit's northwest side was supposed to be a fresh start for Renee McClain. Sunday, the windows were boarded up to cover shattered glass. McClain says she closed on the house Thursday and was given the keys on Friday. She stopped by when the previous owners were still moving out and everything seemed fine. But on Saturday when no one was home, neighbors say the husband of the previous owner was seen angrily vandalizing the property.

"When I was coming out of the house I guess he was making his last swing to break it, so as he broke it I looked, he looked at me... jumped in his car and he was flying down the street," said neighbor Dante Prophet.

A neighbor and the former homeowner say they called police and identified the culprit. But, for Renee, who plans to turn the house into an adult foster care facility, the bill to fix the damage is at least $4,000.

"I wanted to be in a nice. secure neighborhood," she says. "I wanted it to be pleasant and quiet."

On top of everything, a dog was seen chained up in the backyard next to a dog house and an empty food bowl. The pet was left behind by the previous owner for days without food or water. Concerned neighbors and Fox 2 alerted the Humane Society Sunday. The brother of the previous owner picked up the dog. The new owner says she will repair the house and she hopes the person responsible for the damage will be caught and arrested.
