Brawl at River Days, security tight for fireworks

Posted: Updated:

Detroit police are working hard to prevent problems at the River Days festival, but a brawl involving young people broke out Saturday night and some participants were detained. Officers are also looking into rumors that shootings and other gang-related violence may be planned for Monday night's fireworks.

Some people also reported hearing gunshots but police tell Fox 2 the sound came from firecrackers. Rapper Rick Ross canceled his performance at Hot 107.5's Summer Jam at Chene Park Saturday. He was reportedly threatened before he took the stage.

Security is tight for Monday's fireworks. Access to Belle Isle and Hart Plaza will be restricted. Both locations will open at 2pm and entry points will be closed once they reach capacity. A strict curfew will also take effect starting 6pm Monday through 6am Tuesday. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Those who don't comply with the curfew will be arrested and fined. Stay with Fox 2 and for continuing coverage.
