Glendale man found dead in car

Posted: Updated:
There are still a lot of questions after a valley man was shot and killed inside his vehicle, with the engine still running.

Mark Woodruff was very well liked and respected at the Glendale church where he worked for almost 20 years.

His pastor shared some memories of Mark, who was killed Tuesday morning.

"We're very sad. That he's not with us anymore... And I would think as a congregation finds out about it this we're a little bit angry that this happened," said Pastor Don Schoenback.

Don Schoenback is the pastor at Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Glendale. 72 year-old Mark Woodruff worked as an overnight janitor at the church since 1995.

"Mark was the guy that kept the place secure and kept it clean, all things I think we take for granted in the world today," said Schoenback.

He said Mark was a gentle person and cannot understand who would want to hurt him.

"No enemies that would purposely or indirectly want to harm him, he was a guy that attracted good, attracted joy, he laughed a lot, and he made people laugh," he said.

"My dad was a very...kind and gentle soul," said Zachary Woodruff, the victim's son.

The pastor said Mark kept the church property in immaculate condition, taking immense pride in his work.

"Every note you ever gave him about set-up's is in this place," said Schoenback referring to Mark the janitor's closet.

The church plans to celebrate Mark's memory and hopes whoever took his life will soon face justice.

"That person who has done this has left many people sad, many people angry, and many people are now more alert to the kinds of things like this that happen in our community," said Schoenback.

"My dad did nothing to deserve this," said Marcy Woodruff, the victim's daughter.

Glendale Police say they need the public's help in trying to find the person who did this, they hope someone will come forward with the tip they need to solve this crime.

Woodruff's family is left with heartache and questions.

"Whoever did this should turn themselves in and they should know they made a lot of people very unhappy. He is a good person they took away from the world," said Zachary Woodruff.
