Crime scene tape and officers surrounded Detroit's Citadel of Praise on Lyndon after a morning of worship turned into a frightening scene. We're told a 27 year old man showed up on the porch waving a hatchet. The off-duty officer, who attends the church, came out to help. But, the man with the hatchet came after the officer and started swinging. He struck the officer in the leg, but thankfully not with the blade. Witnesses say the officer fired about 8 shots. Police believe the suspect may be mentally ill. He's in critical condition. The officer was not seriously hurt. No one else was injured.
