A Visit To The City Of Riverside

Posted: Updated:

The dynamic downtown Riverside is trying to make its mark as the entertainment hub of the Inland Empire. Mayor Rusty Bailey says, "When people from LA or anywhere else come here they say Wow!"

The Fox theatre is bringing in A -list performers like Cheryl Crow, Jason Mraz and Social Distortion. And they're all enjoying sold out shows. After taking in a concert, the nightlife is booming.

Bailey says, "we've seen a huge increase in the number of restaurants and bars opening up downtown. From craft cocktail bars to gourmet eateries, business is doing well here. We've seen quite the resurgence."

Mark Rubin owns Simple Simon's on Main Street. He's seen downtown change over the years in a city hit especially hard during the recession.

Rubin says, "thirty years ago we were the only business downtown. Us and another place. It was pretty lonely but now there are so many choices for people and it's so vibrant."

Another charm of riverside is the Parisian feel downtown when artists come out to pain the scenes of the city.

Luz Maria Perez is the president of Plein Air Artists of Riverside. Her group sets up easels to pain the cityscape before the oppressive heat sets in or when it cools off in the evenings.

She says, "we want to preserve and promote this artform and people love it when they see us out painting around town."

Arts , culture, and a food frenzy is what Riverside is banking on to lead the way in the IE.
