Grayson Goggin is now a normal 1-year-old, and he has the doctors and nurses at Children's National Health System to thank.  The story of how he got here, however, is one his entire family will always remember.
WASHINGTON - Remember how your mother warned you never to touch the hot stove?  A D.C. area mom found out quickly how important it is to have good health care available for kids when it counts, and she's jumped in to help make sure other families have the same option.

Carrie Marriott was making dinner in her kitchen as her son Henry, who was then less than 1 year old, was crawling around on the floor.   She opened the oven to pull out the chicken that had been cooking-- and says it only took a second for things to go very wrong.

"He put both of his hands on the oven door and tried to stand up, and got severe second and third-degree burns all over his hands," Marriott remembered.

When the ambulance arrived, Marriott says she insisted her son be taken to Children's National Medical Center in D.C. Luckily today, Henry has no negative effects from the injury, and Marriott says they owe it all to the team that cared for him at the hospital.

Now, Henry's mom is helping make sure other families have the same access to the great care that Children's provides. She's the chair of this year's Race for Every Child, a 5K run/walk that takes place September 13 at Freedom Plaza.  This is the second year of the event, and the goal is a big one: They hope to raise $1 million.

"The funds that we raise for Race for Every Child come right back to the hospital to provide critical preventative care and medical care with the best doctors and researchers in the world," Marriott said.

Registration for the event is open now, and FOX 5 is an official media sponsor!  If you want to take part, sign up now by clicking here.  You can also volunteer to help on race day, or be a sponsor and make a donation
