Markell: No state facility to house immigrant kids

Posted: Updated:

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Delaware Gov. Jack Markell says the state does not have any public facilities equipped to house any of the many unaccompanied children who have flooded across the U.S. border in recent months.

The News Journal of Wilmington reports (http://delonline.us/1jxc2xN ) that the Obama administration has asked Delaware, among other states, for help in housing the kids.

But Markell said Monday he doesn't believe Delaware has any state facilities available that could help.

He said private organizations would be free to house kids if they chose, but that he would expect to be notified if the federal government sends any kids children to Delaware.
