PHOENIX (KSAZ) - It was a national day of protest.

"We've got an issue with this immigration and we're just trying to bring it to light," said Tim.

Anti-immigration activists held rallies at 300 locations around the country, including the Arizona state capitol.

Protesters are upset about a surge in unaccompanied minors coming to the U.S. illegally.

"I believe that the country is out of control with regards to immigration, that there's laws for a reason," said Tom.

But the surge of children is slowing.  The U.S. Border Patrol in Texas announced Friday that the number of children crossing is down from 300 children a day to around 80.

A processing center in Nogales is no longer taking in children and should close within a week.

Back at the capitol, organizers told FOX 10 they're not against fixing the broken immigration system.  They just don't agree with the way the President wants to do it.

"We don't need a gigantic comprehensive immigration bill to fix the problems we have right now.  We need to basically enforce the laws that are on the books," said Tim.

Protesters will be back at the capitol on Saturday.  There will also be a protest Friday night during a town hall meeting in Laveen.
