Catching Up With LA City Attorney Mike Feuer

Updated:

Mike Feuer is the Los Angeles City Attorney. His responsibilities go far beyond prosecuting misdemeanor criminal cases. For example, the City Attorney's office is currently investigating the medical marijuana dispensaries that operate legally within the city. There has been an on-going question about the number and location of dispensaries, but now there's also a medical marijuana farmers' market attempting to do business in the ctiy.

Mr. Feuer's office is currently investigating and prosecuting banks that are alleged to have discriminatory lending practices.

The City Attorney continues to crack down on hospitals that dump patients on Skid Row.

There is a continuing investigation into a 40 million dollar trust fund, paid for by customers of the city's Department of Water and Power, to benefit DWP employees. The union representing most of the DWP's employees has been reluctant to provide details about the money in the fund and how it is being used.

The City Attorney's office has written gun violence prevention laws that are some of the strongest in the country along with a school violence prevention program being used by the LAUSD.

A long list of the City Attorney's other projects is available at atty.lacity.org. The City Attorney's telephone number is (213) 978-8100.
