Lost memories? Some King Tapes customers get their videos back while others wait

Posted: Updated:
MESA, Ariz. - People dropped off their lifetime memories so they could be converted to DVD's, but when they go to pick them up they find a closed sign.

We've not learned that the shop owner has started to give some of the customers their videos back.

At King tape's in Mesa the closed sign remains, and customers still are showing up and calling, hoping to find the owner.

"It just rings and goes to voicemail," said Omar Patel. Patel says he has not received any calls back.

Omar Patel dropped a camcorder off and has been waiting to pick it up.

"At least two months, the first month I seen it, and for the last month it has been closed," said Patel.

Patel says he comes by every three days to a closed door.

He's one of many customers who have been trying for months to get their home videos returned from King Tapes. The owner of the store, John Clayton Giroux, was arrested a few days ago by Phoenix Police for allegedly fighting with a family member.

And since FOX 10 reported on this issue ten days ago, some customers have been able to get their tapes back, thanks to the owner's former business partner. Others are still trying.

"They are videos that cannot be replaced, and I really want to get them back, I am hoping maybe he will give me a call," said Eve Anderson.

Eve Anderson was back at King Tapes on Monday, she's been trying to get all of her videos back for months.

"I thought maybe he was on vacation and didn't have anybody to watch his business while he was gone. I came back a week later, and I kept returning and there were some other notes on the door saying "we want our tapes back."
