Police: Victim was bound, beaten and thrown into a bathtub during home invasion

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Phoenix Police say a man is bound, beaten, and locked in a bathroom during a home invasion Friday morning.

Authorities are on the hunt for the suspects behind the attack.

The homeowner was apparently asleep in a chair around 3 a.m. when two suspects barged into the home. The men told the victim they wanted to see "the good stuff."

Investigators spent the day collecting evidence at the home near 31st Ave. & Thomas Road. It's where two robbers invaded a man's home assaulting him and ransacking the place.

"They were asking for the good stuff, and money, and things of that nature," said Tommy Thompson.

Neighbors now wondering who would target the 60-year-old man, and why.

One neighbor we spoke with asked us not to identify her.

"It was very surprising because he's very conservative, and he doesn't mess with anyone else," she said.

Other neighbors say the victim had a caretaker.

"I feel a lot for him, he's a good person, all alone and sick, I don't know why they would do that," said Amalia Arroyo.

Remarkably though, the man managed to escape after the intruders left.

Police say his phone wasn't working, so he walked to a nearby AM/PM store. Security footage showed Phoenix Fire crews responding to treat a man. Police say he's badly injured but expected to be ok.

The thieves took off with a white 2013 Chevrolet pickup, with Arizona plate AYV8813.

The early morning break-in, without a clear motive, rattled the neighborhood. Amalia says she has her grandchildren with her. "Because I have my grandchildren, I'm scared that something will happen here," she said.

Investigators describe one of the suspects as a white male, about 6'3" tall, weighing 250 pounds.
