PHOENIX (AP) - A man is in custody in connection with a shooting outside a Phoenix supermarket.

Phoenix police say 21-year-old Jevert Worthy is being held on suspicion of aggravated assault and violating Shannon's Law.

That law makes it a crime to fire a weapon into the air within city limits. It came after the June 1999 death of 14-year-old Phoenix resident Shannon Smith, who was hit by a stray bullet fired a mile away.

Police say Worthy got into a fight with a 20-year-old man and another person near an entrance to a grocery store Sunday evening.

They say Worthy fired multiple shots and the one victim suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

Witnesses gave police the license plate number of the alleged shooter's car and that led to Worthy's arrest.
