Historic Phoenix church, "The Sanctuary", goes up for auction

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - An early 1900's church, an architectural wonder, built in the hear of Phoenix is now up for bids.

"It's going to be one of the last opportunities for people to come in and look at the architecture and look at this place," said realtor Eva Krenklis.

Folks may remember it as "the sanctuary," modernized in 1938 it's located near 9th Avenue & Van Buren.

It has 40 foot exposed beam ceilings, mahogany walls and pews, and period chandeliers throughout. The hope is to keep it as a place of worship.

"It would be amazing if it still served for over 100 years as a congregation, for a place to worship, and a place for people to come help each other. Yes, that would be amazing," said Krenklis.

After many years of leading this church and ministry, the pastor is taking on international projects including traveling to Mexico and Africa more often.

The auction will take place Friday morning at 8 a.m., it's a silent auction.
