Wind knocks over several RV's near I-10 & Watson - FOX 10 News |

Trailers destroyed during storm in Buckeye

BUCKEYE, Ariz. - A late night monsoon brought rain, high wind gusts, and lots of lightning across the valley.

Buckeye was hit hard with mobile homes being blown over, and trees toppled.

Several mobile homes and RV's were no match for the wind, which twisted and tossed them like a petulant child hurling unwanted playthings to the ground.

The microburst dealt its fury in fierce and random doses. Some buildings sailed through undamaged while others were total wrecks.

Everyone who was involved has a story.

"Well, the wind came down, and then high pressure blew it over the house, and ended up over here by my neighbors," said a resident.

Residents at the Leaf Verde RV park spent the day cleaning up inside, a mangled mess left behind. Next door at the Buena Vista mobile home park repairs were underway, the ferocity of the storm a fresh memory.

"Oh, it was pretty rough, and the first few minutes it hailed the size of a quarter, and the wind blowing at 70 miles per hour," said Dave Hadden.

In the storm's wake, time to assess the damage.

"I do not know, my neighbor said fifteen or twenty thousand for the roof and carport canopy," said Tom Sanzone.
