Former Yuma mayor to get $40K to settle lawsuit

Posted: Updated:

YUMA, Ariz. (AP) - Ex-Yuma Mayor Al Krieger will receive $40,000 from the city to settle a lawsuit he filed against six current and former city council members.

Krieger had been seeking almost $15,600 to cover his legal fees in the investigation brought against him by the city council in 2012.

Te additional $24,000 awarded by the city council Thursday will pay for Kreiger's attorney fees.

Krieger was Yuma's mayor from 2010 to the end of 2013.

In February 2012, the city council hired an independent legal counsel to investigate allegations of misconduct and conflict of interest against Krieger.

The Arizona Attorney General's Office announced in September 2013 that it was declining to prosecute Krieger for criminal conflict of interest because there wasn't a reasonable likelihood of conviction.
