(WJBK) - Closing arguments were heard Wednesday in the Renisha McBride shooting trial. Now, the fate of 55-year-old Ted Wafer is in the hands of a jury.

Wafer is charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter, but jurors could convict him of the lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter.

Prosecutor Patrick Muscat said Wednesday that homeowner Theodore Wafer handled his shotgun "like a toy" and blasted 19-year-old Renisha McBride in the face.

Wafer says he shot McBride in self-defense. But prosecutors say he should have stayed locked in his Dearborn Heights home and called 911.

It's not known why McBride stopped at Wafer's house, although Muscat says she could have been seeking help. She was drunk and had crashed her car hours earlier.
