CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A vandal broke into Soldier Field, scaling the colonnade stairs and setting a fire in an executive suite, just a week before the Bears’ first preseason game of the season Friday night.

Three suites were vandalized at the stadium at 1410 Museum Campus Dr. between late Friday and early Saturday, according to police.

A member of the stadium’s cleaning service discovered executive suites on the D Level open and unlocked about 5 a.m. Sunday, according to a police source.

She checked the suites and found that they had been vandalized. According to police, one suite had writing carved into the walls and a pentagon shape painted on the carpet.

Cabinets and glass had been broken, and a fire had been started on one suite’s carpeting, police said.

Another suite had minimal damage, but the doors and cabinets had been opened, police said.

Police checked surveillance camera footage and found that the vandal got into Soldier Field by scaling the east colonnade stairs sometime between 9 p.m. Friday and 2 a.m. Saturday, according to a police report.

The suspect is described in the report as a white man between 25 and 30, 5-foot-10 to 6-foot and 160-170 pounds, wearing a red T-shirt and blue jeans.

The Bears are scheduled to play a preseason game at 7 p.m. Friday night at Solider Field against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Soldier Field spokesman Luca Serra did not say whether or not the suites would be repaired in time for the game.

No arrests have been made, police said, and Area Central detectives are investigating.
