Cigarette thief caught on tape suspected of breaking into same store twice

Posted: Updated:
CITY OF DETROIT -  A store owner on Detroit's east side catches a brazen thief on camera -- not once,  but twice.

He believes it's the same suspect - seen in surveillance video from another recent break-in.  He saw that video on Fox 2.

Here is the suspect in action running down the aisles at Payless Market on East Grand Boulevard in the middle of the night.

This thief has a thing for cigarettes. Watch closely at the top of the screen and you can see him climbing down from a hole in the roof.

He left the screwdriver he carried in his mouth behind.

The suspect broke in and stole cigarette - not money but cigarettes

This break-in was Saturday.  About 30 cartons of cigarettes stolen and $1000 damage to the roof. The same thief was caught on camera breaking into the same store in early July.

Store owner Amaad Sallan  said, "He broke into the store and stole a whole (package) of Newports, he didn't steal any money."

"The last time he broke in, he stole money," said. "Now we don't (keep) any money right here ... So he stole just cigarettes."

And the same thing happened early Wednesday morning around 4 a.m. at the Thrifty Scot Market on Harper and the damage was extensive. Again the thief stole cigarettes and he looks  familiar.

"My friend saw it on the news and he said it's the same guy," said Sallan.

Do you recognize the cigarette bandit?

If you know who he is, call Detroit Police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAKUP.
