Bail bondsmen open fire on fugitive wearing body armor

Posted: Updated:
CHANDLER, Ariz. - Two bail bonds agents opened fire, killing a suspect they were trying to apprehend in Chandler. The two were a father and son team working together.

The agents were with the Danos Bail Bond Company and had tracked the fugitive to a trailer park in east Chandler near Williams Field Rd & Gilbert Road.

The fugitive was wearing body armor and was armed with a semi-automatic firearm when he confronted the agents.

"The bail bondsman knocked on the door, I believe that he came out, he had a gun, and a confrontation occurred," said Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

"I looked out the window and found three trailers down, seen a guy standing there pointing a gun, both hands on the gun, another guy was on the other side of the trailer on the phone," said Jerry Combs. He said he heard four shots.

Detectives have also found cameras around the home.

A spokesperson for the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office say that the fugitive was wanted for an aggravated harassment warrant.

Investigators have not released the name of the man who died, but they did say he has a large criminal history.
