Couple sentenced in connection to accidental shooting death of boy, 4

Posted: Updated:
CITY OF DETROIT -   Two people will go to jail for a deadly mistake, leaving a gun within a young child's reach.

Patricia Johnson and Harvey Witcher were sentenced to two years in jail for the accidental shooting death of a 4-year-old Detroit boy. He was killed by his 4-year-old cousin in January 2013.

Earlier this week a warrant was issued for the arrest of Johnson and Witcher when they didn't show up for their sentencing earlier this week..

Due to a clerical error with the Wayne County Circuit Court the sentencing date was in fact today.

"I miss my baby,": Witcher said at his sentencing.

"I'm just devastated, there's nothing I can say that could change anything," Johnson said.

The two and a third person, Robert Richardson, were taking care of young children when the accident happened. A loaded rifle had been left in the room with the children.

Richardson was sentenced to probation for his role..
