Vigil held in support of refugee children

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

The group One Michigan took part in an international vigil for refugee children Saturday at Detroit's Clark Park with pro-immigrant groups across the Americas. They're holding a week of actions in support of thousands of refugee children arriving to the United States.

Fox 2's Charlie Langton talked with one young girl about her own story. Click on the video player to watch his report.

The group says, "While we figure what to do to fix our broken system and find ways to prevent mass migrations, we must treat immigrants and refugees with respect and understanding."

Congress has failed to act on immigration. President Obama is considering acting on his own. An estimated 11 million or more immigrants are living illegally in the United States, many of them for years or even decades. They work, attend school and participate in American society even though they broke the law to get here and lack papers allowing them to stay.
