Boy, 16, killed; 3 more wounded in Sauk Village shooting

SAUK VILLAGE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A 16-year-old boy was killed and three others were wounded Thursday afternoon in a shooting in south suburban Sauk Village.

Police officers responding to a call of a person shot about 1:45 p.m. in the 1700 block of Sauk Trail found two people with gunshot wounds, according to a statement from Sauk Village police.

A third person ran to a nearby house for help, and a fourth person was driven to the hospital by a friend, police said.

Nathaniel Burns Jr., of the 22400 block of Straffburg Avenue in Sauk Village, was taken to Franciscan St. Margaret Health in Hammond, Ind., where he was pronounced dead at 2:52 p.m., according to a statement from the Lake County Coroner's office.

The coroner's office ruled his death a homicide.

Of the three others that were taken to the hospital, two have been treated and released and the third was in good condition, police said.

The Sauk Village Police Department Detective Division and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the incident.
