Family of man who died at local concert defending suspect

Posted: Updated:
(WJBK) - The son of a 55-year-old Westland man who died after an alleged assault at a concert says the 15-year-old teen being investigated is not to blame.

Robert Kobe died from injuries after an alleged assault by the teen at a Hank Williams, Jr. concert at DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston Sunday.

"Life happens, accidents happen," says Cory Kobe, Robert's son.

Witnesses told police that in the concourse area Robert Kobe was pushed into the concrete, where he struck his head when he fell. The teen tried to flee but witnesses restrained him.

Cory Kobe said that the teen should not charged.

"It was an accident. They were horsing around, he tripped and hit his head," he says.

The 15-year-old from Wayne is the son of one of Robert Kobe's friends.

The Oakland County Medical Examiner rules Friday, August 22 that the death of Robert Kobe is a homicide. Authorities are continuing the investigation and will present their findings to the prosecutor's office.
