Bicyclist dies after hit by car

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Police believe a man may have fallen off his bicycle before being hit and killed by a car near 43rd Avenue and Osborn on Wednesday night.

A 69-years-old man was riding his bicycle around 8:30 p.m. when two vehicles began heading toward him.

The first driver managed to get out of the way, but the driver in the second car, a Toyota, didn't have time to stop.
Both of the drivers waited for police.

Initially, police believed a car had hit the man first before the second two cars came long, however, officers are now saying there is no evidence in the road or witnesses to support a hit-and-run.

The rear tire of a bicycle found near the man indicts that it had been run over by a vehicle, but officers believe the man may have crashed or fallen off his bicycle before being hit by the Toyota.

The driver of the Toyota didn't show signs of impairment.

The crash is still under investigation and police believe there may be additional witnesses who left the scene and could not be located and interviewed.

If you think you know anything about this case you're asked to call Phoenix police or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
The man's name hasn't been released because detectives have not been able to notify his next of kin.
