TEMPE, Ariz. - It sure was an interesting sight Wednesday; a Valley Metro bus was stuck in a sinkhole near Apache & McClintock in Tempe.

All 12 people on board the bus got out safely and crews pulled the bus out of the sinkhole.

But a day later and cleanup continues in the area.

Fans covered the floor of a Tempe tavern. "Yesterday was water coming like this from the drain and all the water coming from all over the building," said the bar owner.

Next door Suresh Rohit, who owns the Paradise Motel, continues cleaning 16 of their 13 rooms that are unusable following the water main break.

"We have damage in the hall room, numbers 101-116, water like 1 1/2 feet. All the furniture, the tile, carpet, everything is a mess," said Rohit.

The company is insured, and the City of Tempe will soon send out an inspector to assess the damage. But they'll miss out on income from more than half their rooms in the meantime.

"It's difficult; it's very very difficult," he said.

Construction crews began repairs Wednesday evening and made a lot of progress by this morning.

"The water line has been repaired, the gas has been reconnected, they're working on cleaning up and repairing the pavement," said Amanda Nelson.

While the image of a bus stuck in the sinkhole seemed out of the ordinary, Amanda Nelson with the City of Tempe said the reason behind the busted line is not.

"It's what we call a naturally occurring water main break; it wasn't hit by a piece of equipment; there isn't anything in particular that caused it, it happens," she said.
