Crash sends Mesa officer to the hospital

Mesa Police say a crash that happened near Loop 202 and State Route 24 on Monday night has sent one of their officers to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

Mesa Police say one of their officers has been hospitalized following a crash that happened on the night of June 8.

What we know:

According to a brief statement, the crash happened at around 9:00 p.m. in the area of Loop 202 Santan Freeway and State Route 24.

"The officer was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries," read a portion of the statement.

Police say the officer involved was on a motorcycle at the time of the crash. As for the other driver, police say they are not hurt.

Investigators have also ruled out impairment as a factor in the crash.

What we don't know:

Police did not elaborate on what led to the crash.

Local Impact:

According to ADOT, the northbound lanes of Loop 202 was closed near Elliot Road as a result of the crash, but it has since reopened.
