PHOENIX (FOX 10) - A suspected impaired driver crashed into a west Phoenix home this morning.
Phoenix police tell us at around 7 a.m., a few officers were responding to a different call when they were following behind the driver of a Dodge Charger.
The suspect was a man in his 30s.
"Some of our officers happened to behind him and watched him slowly start to drift into oncoming traffic," Sgt. Tommy Thompson said. "Then the next thing they know, very rapidly, he crossed over all the eastbound lanes through oncoming traffic."
After running off the road, he drove through three yards before crashing into a bedroom of a home on the corner of 38th Avenue and Bethany Home Road.
Luckily, no one inside was hurt. The family living inside declined to comment on camera but say it was "the worst alarm they have ever woken up to."
The aftermath of the damage and debris left behind a spectacle.
"At 7 o'clock in the morning, it's amazing that this vehicle was able to cross through all the lanes of the oncoming eastbound traffic and not collide with anybody in that direction," Sgt. Thompson said. "This looked like it could've had much more catastrophic consequences had that been the case."
As for the driver, officers say he has minor injuries but was taken into custody for suspected impaired driving.
